Congratulations to Chief Tim Gothard of the Canton Fire Department for being selected as the 2007 North Texas District Firefighter of the Year. _____________________________________________________________________________
WHAT
IS THE N.T.F.F.M.A.? The North Texas Firemen’s and Fire
Marshals’ Association, Inc. was organized in the year 1934. Jim Griffin of
Plano served as the first President of this great organization. For any
organization to survive this long, the organization must have both the support
and leadership of dedicated individuals, and a well defined, and attainable
purpose. The Constitution and By-Laws of the North Texas Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association state “The purpose of this organization is to foster and perpetuate one hundred percent fire prevention and fire fighting efficiency. The organization is absolutely nonpartisan and shall never be used for the promotion or retardation of partisan propaganda nor the promotion of any person’s candidacy for public office.” The N.T.F.F.M.A. invites any and all fire departments to join with our association in promoting, and accomplishing our stated purpose. The annual membership dues for the NTFFMA are $25.00. Our association firmly believes we can offer you and/or your department much more than $25.00 in benefits in return for your membership. Some of the benefits you can receive from membership in the NTFFMA include: SCHOLARSHIPS
TO A&M FIRE SCHOOL Each year the NTFFMA awards at least three scholarships to the Annual Texas A&M Municipal Fire Training School. In addition to these three scholarships, the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas provides two additional scholarships to the NTFFMA to give. This is a total of 5 scholarships annually. FIRE
PREVENTION POSTER CONTEST Each year the NTFFMA sponsors a fire prevention poster contest. Awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in six divisions. The winning posters are then entered in the state poster contest held by the SFFMA annual convention in June. The winning posters at the state contest will be displayed at the fire museum in Beaumont for the next year. Imagine the joy and pride some child in your jurisdiction could experience if their poster won at the state level. DISTRICT
MEETINGS The NTFFMA holds two district meetings annually. One meeting is held in September and the other is held in March. The March meeting is the annual business meeting for the Association. It is at this meeting we have the poster contest, officer elections, and award the A&M scholarships. PUMPER
RACE PRIZES At each district meeting, Pumper races are held. Cash prizes as well as trophies are awarded for first, second, and third place in Men’s and Women’s six person and three person races. Cash prizes can total up to $600.00. FELLOWSHIP Possibly the most important benefit of belonging to the NTFFMA will be the exchange of knowledge and ideas through the fellowship at our meetings. Many apparatus, and department policies and procedures have been designed and developed at our meetings. You will have the opportunity to meet people from many different types of organizations. There is no need for every one to invent the wheel. Listen to what works for others, see if it can be adapted to fit your needs. TRAINING The NTFFMA has begun sponsoring training classes at every district meeting. We try to offer only interesting, current, and beneficial training classes. A Certification Workshop will be offered at each district meeting. As you are aware, the Certification Workshop is required by the SFFMA. All Certification Coordinators are required to attend one of these workshops every two years. It is suggested that every Fire Chief attend this workshop once every three years. These training classes and the Certification Workshops are offered at NO COST. We are confident you will discover other benefits once you become a member in the NTFFMA. We look forward to having you as a member. Contact Information
